§ 29. Additional benefits required by law.

  • (a)

    To the extent that the City of Pensacola, as an employer of firefighters and Firefighters' Relief and Pension Fund sponsor, may be required by law to provide additional benefits to firefighters employed by the city, or their beneficiaries, those additional benefits may be provided by ordinance.

    (b)

    Notwithstanding any other provision of the Firefighters' Relief and Pension Fund to the contrary, contributions, benefits, and service credit with respect to qualified military service, as defined in section 414(u) of the Code, shall be provided in accordance with section 414(u) of the Code, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 ("USERRA") and the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008 ("HEART Act") and shall be effective as of the dates indicated in USERRA and the HEART Act.
